State police may continue to use ethnicity in checks

Judge allows military police to continue using ethnicity in so-called MTV checks. This is a setback for RADAR and the other human rights organizations and citizens, who filed a lawsuit against the State. By doing so, they wanted to prevent travelers from being pulled out of line at the airport for checks based solely on their skin color or ethnicity.

With this ruling, the door for discrimination remains wide open. The court ruled that in the search for illegal residence, Dutch people of color are singled out as potential non-Dutch nationals. As a result, non-white Dutch nationals are seen as foreigners every time they return home.

The lawsuit had been filed by two Dutch Citizens, Amnesty International, Control Alt Delete, the Dutch Lawyers Committee and RADAR.
