Discrimination in the workplace is a clear signal that there is room for growth in diversity and inclusion. To create an inclusive company, it is essential that discrimination is discussable and employees dare to raise discrimination issues. It is also important that internal discrimination complaints are dealt with adequately and can be prevented in the future.
This is not always easy. Therefore, you can read here seven tips with concrete actions that contribute to an adequate handling of discrimination complaints. The tips come from the working method of the Meldpunt Discriminatie Regio Amsterdam (MDRA) and the MDRA's recent research on employment discrimination. In this study, all reporting files from 2018, 2019 and 2020 in which an employee raised employment discrimination internally were analyzed in depth. It examined what works and what does not work well when dealing with discrimination complaints at work. These seven tips are addressed to anyone involved in handling an employment discrimination complaint or influencing policy.
