In Amsterdam, you are free to be who you want to be and to love who you want to love. To be able to be yourself requires a sense of safety. However, LGBTQ+ persons face harassment, violence and discrimination in Amsterdam. This is unacceptable and because of this, the right to be yourself in freedom is under pressure in our city.
Therefore, on June 30, 2021, 27 civil society groups and organizations*, Mayor Femke Halsema, Alderman Rutger Groot Wassink and Head of Operations and member of the unit leadership of the Amsterdam Police Pim Jansonius signed a cooperation agreement. The Meldpunt Discriminatie Regio Amsterdam will play an active role within this cooperation. Together we form the Rainbow Safety Alliance (RVA) to increase the safety of the rainbow community in Amsterdam.
*The participating organizations and groups are: Alle Kleuren Oost, Beards of Berlin, COC Amsterdam, Colourful Pride, Emancipator, Fairspace, Fite Qlub, Gaykrant, #ikbenhetzat, LGBT Youth Initiative, Meldpunt Discriminatie Regio Amsterdam (MDRA), OndersteBoven, Pink Marrakech, Pride Amsterdam, Pride & Sports, Queer Currents, Queer Hospitality Consultation, Queer is not a Manifesto, Rainbow Counter, Pink in Blue Amsterdam, Pink Links, Sex Matters, Stop Street Harassment, Tiger LHBTI Krav Maga, Trans Amsterdam, Trans United Europe, Women & Pride.
